Targeted Advisory Service on Animal Health.
Antiparasitic resistance is a growing challenge on Irish farms. Resistance occurs when a treatment fails to eliminate targeted parasites as expected. Each time animals receive anthelmintic treatments (deworming), there is a risk of increasing resistant parasites. To mitigate this, effective parasite control strategies should extend beyond medication and include herd or flock health plans, grazing management, regular faecal testing and other sustainable practices.
Successful parasite control requires a tailored approach that considers the unique conditions of each farm. A well-structured parasite management plan should address key risk factors and adapt to changing conditions as needed.
This scheme allows for a free on-farm vet consultation to discuss strategies around parasitic control and 1 free faecal egg count for gutworms per farm. This scheme is open to cattle, sheep and horses. The deadline for TASAH submission is the 31st of October, however, we strongly encourage you to send in the samples earlier (spring/summer).
Please check that your vet is registered to complete TASAH. Samples will only be accepted through veterinary submission.
